Councilman Matt Miklave officially arrived as the Democratic party's fourth candidate for mayor Saturday at Bradford's Grill and Tavern.

Miklave made it official in front of roughly 50 people and quickly got to business, once again stressing his performance-based budgeting approach.

"We'll spend the entire budget process without considering what we're trying to achieve with the money we're looking to spend," he said.  "Or whether we're measuring that success appropriately."

"You have to look at the outcomes.  You can't just throw money at something," said Kate Tepper, a supporter and volunteer for Miklave's campaign.

"I think it's important to review the entire budget, not just the parts that seem easiest to cut," said Peter Libre, a Norwalk resident and Miklave supporter.

Miklave pointed to recent budget hiccups with Oak Hills Park, money missing from the Town Clerk's Office and the recent discovery that the Board of Education had underpaid the city's insurance fund for four years.

"Who is responsible for these epic failures?" he asked.  "The silence from this administration is deafening."

Miklave joins former police chief Harry Rilling, former Town Clerk Andy Garfunkel and District D chairman Vinny Mangiacopra to run on the Democratic ticket.

"He's a guy with great values, he's hard-working," Libre said.  "I really have confidence that he's the right person to be mayor."
